Photo licensing and copyright
We are keen to ensure that photographers retain appropriate rights over the images they add.
In this regard, different licenses are available, which you can select when adding material.
You can also set a default license in your settings.
The licenses available are:
- CC Attribution-Share Alike (by-sa)
- Copyright with no re-distribution rights
- Public domain
- Plus, when a photo is imported from Flickr, the same licence as the original
CC Attribution-Share Alike (by-sa) [default]
This is a Creative Commons license. Naturally the photographer retains the copyright for the image. But under this license:
Users of the website are free:
- to Share — to copy, distribute and transmit the work
- to Remix — to adapt the work
Under the following conditions:
- Attribution. You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).
- Share Alike. If you alter, transform, or build upon this work, you may distribute the resulting work only under the same, similar or a compatible license.
Any of the above conditions can be waived if you get permission from the copyright holder.
Nothing in this license impairs or restricts the author's moral rights.
[CycleStreets is making clear to others the license terms of this work by publishing this license information. The license webpage also gives full information.]
Copyright with no re-distribution rights
The photographer retains the copyright on the images. There are no redistribution rights other than for CycleStreets (and authorised proxied instances, all of which maintain the CycleStreets name) to host the material.
Public domain
The photographer releases the photograph into the public domain, without attribution.
